High-throughput songwriting

In my lab we work on high-throughput biochemical assays. We say, only half in jest, that instead of using robots to automate the transfer of samples, we use lots of undergraduate students.

At UCLA a similar approach appears to have been applied to the writing of organic chemistry songs. Over the course of one 10-week term, 250 students produced 87 music videos as an extra-credit assignment for Prof. Neil Garg.

In all of my years on the science songs beat, I’ve never heard of a single class producing so many songs so quickly. I wonder how much extra credit they get.
